 Voodoo Music Festival

Festival uses mobile content to connect bands to fans

Bands from the Voodoo Music Festival 2006 and the map of New Orleans

The Voodoo Music Experience is a 2-day event that takes place each October in New Orleans, LA. With annual attendance of 60,000 and multiple stages, 2006's line-up included Red Hot Chili Peppers and Duran Duran.

We created a mobile content experience that attracted and engaged potential attendees months before the festival. The program provided information about the band line-up well in advance of traditional media outlets, creating an incentive for people to join the service. In addition, the mobile interaction drew people online where they could set personalized band preferences, allowing them to receive custom content from their favorite bands before and during the live event (i.e. "win Flea's sock").

Based on the concepts developed for the Yellow Arrow project, we designed a map-based online tour of musical locations in New Orleans. This allowed festival-goers to explore the rich musical history of New Orleans during their visit.

As a result, the press, audience and bands were able to enjoy the festival in a whole new way. The unique experience began long before bands mounted the stage and continued well after.
